McCallum Orchestras and Choirs to Perform

Austin, Texas - November,  8, 2007 -
  McCallum High School orchestras and choirs will come together for their Winter Concert Series December 4 and 6 at the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Theater. Both of the performances are free and will begin at 7pm.

On Tuesday night, December 4th, the program includes

       ·"Happy Hanukkah" by Ward
       ·"Contredance" by Clark
       ·"Hornpipe" from Water Music by Handel/Arr. Meyer
       ·"Petite Overture" by Del Borgo
       ·"Christmas Quatrain" by Del Borgo
       ·"Celebrate the Feast of Lights" by Albrecht and Brownsey with the McCallum Men's Chorus

McOrchOn Thursday, December 6, the program will feature the award winning McCallum High School Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Ricky Pringle and the Varsity Choir under the direction of Mr. Malcolm Nelson.

The December 6 Program includes:

      ·Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 9 in F Major by Corelli featuring Caris Longoria and
           Gonzalo Hernando on Violin and Catherine Cotham on Cello
      ·Concerto No. 11 Op. 3 in d minor by Vivaldi featuring Caris Longoria and
           Gonzalo Hernando on Violin and Catherine Cotham on Cello
      ·"Holiday Salute" by McLeod
      ·"Happy Hanukkah" by Ward
      · Amahl and the Night Visitors, an opera by Menotti with the McCallum Choirs
 
Silent Auction Will Benefit the Carnegie Hall Performance FundCarnegie Hall

McCallum's Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Ricky Pringle, will play New York City's Carnegie Hall in 2009. To help raise funds for this once-in-a-lifetime trip, the McCallum Orchestra Booster Club will hold silent auctions to begin at 6:00 P.M. in conjunction with the Winter Concert Series performances on December 4 and 6.

Concert goers will have the opportunity to bid on special and unique items donated from both individuals and organizations throughout Austin including a violin from Violins Etc, three nights at a mountain home in Durango, Colorado, a one hour massage from Texas Healing Arts Institute, and tuition from Texas State University String Camp '08.

Items and gift certificates have also been donated from Austin American-Statesman, University of Texas Press, Blackerby Violin Shop and
Alamo Drafthouse, as well as fine restaurants like Blue Star Cafeteria, Sampaio and Kerbey Lane Cafe. Performing arts organizations such as the Austin Symphony and the Austin Chamber Music Center have donated tickets to performances. Other sponsors include Fiddle Sticks Bow Shop, Soy Delites, UT Press, Screen Door Earrings, Austin American-Statesman and Austin Vet Hospital. Additional donations from orchestra parents include handmade jewelry, home cooked meals like paella, lasagna and even a mid-century dinner for six with a bartender.
