Austin, Texas (March 13, 2008) The McCallum Orchestra Performance Fund announced it will work with the Austin Community Foundation in its efforts to provide outstanding performance opportunities to deserving student musicians.
Ranked among the finest public school orchestra programs in the nation, the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra, comprised of approximately 100 students, has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in 2009 as part of its Masterworks Series.
"This is a life enriching opportunity for our students," said Ricky Pringle, director of the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestras.
The Carnegie Hall Masterworks Series invites qualified ensembles to collaborate on major works for choir, professional orchestra and soloists under the direction of a nationally recognized conductor.
"We are proud to join forces with the Austin Community Foundation in helping provide exceptional opportunities for our future musicians and artists," said Jackie Stence, spokesperson for the McCallum Orchestra Performance Fund.
The Austin Community Foundation was created in 1977 with a $30,000 gift from Fanny Gray Leo and has grown over the past 30 years to more than $100 million in assets. Currently ACF manages more than 700 charitable funds established by individual donors, corporations and non-profit agencies.
Kala Philo, McCallum Orchestra Performance Fund board member, expressed appreciation for ACF's support. "It is our goal that every deserving student who so desires be able to enjoy this exceptional opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in 2009. ACF's support will be vital in helping us reach this goal," said Ms. Philo.
