This year has been a very exciting year for the MCFAA orchestra program with outstanding performances from both individual students, and ensemble groups, starting with 35 gold medals in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest with 13 students advancing to State Solo and Ensemble to be held on the UT Campus in May. In February, the varsity and non-varsity full orchestras with winds and percussion, earn top scores at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. The varsity won sweepstakes honors. Both varsity and non-varsity orchestras took sweepstakes in the UIL String Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Contest in April. Mayor Wynn and City Council proclaimed March 27th as McCallum Orchestra Day for being selected to perform at Carnegie.
The Chamber Orchestra is headed to New York's Carnegie Hall next year to perform in the MasterWorks Series. The orchestra is raising money for this exciting trip. Donations can be made online through the Austin Community Foundation at www.macorchestrafund.org.
